Prevention of child and adolescent obesity

The prevention stream of ACAORN provides the opportunity for collaboration between emerging, mid and established career researchers interested in large and small scale child and adolescent obesity prevention research. Many members of the stream are engaged in research involving pre-school, primary and adolescent children in a range of settings including child health, pre-schools, schools, after school care and primary health care. We aim to promote evidence that can be used to inform interventions in large scale whole-of community interventions. Members of the stream are currently leading the largest community-based interventions in Australia. Our group values and fosters collaboration and mentoring.
The work plan for the stream is currently under review, but our initial plans are to collate a database of current prevention research activity around Australia with the aim of helping researchers identify published and pilot data (along with grey literature) that might be useful to support grant applications and to provide a means by which we can be better informed of each others work. The database will also provide an opportunity to identify gaps in current research activity as well as opportunities for evaluation, pooling and collaboration.
